tt500 build : part 10

For OMS 2013 I threw my towel in the ring on the tt500 and took the easy way out. I rode the cl350 for my 2012 build, only to hole a piston the very first day out. I failed. I was able to ride another bike the remaining two days, but can't help wonder if I had just got my shit together with the tt, I probably would have ridden it all three days without issue.

I left off with the rear suspension needing the last little bits to move on to the tank mounts. Today I rolled the beast out, tacked in a rear seat hoop, and zip tied the rear fender in place to check proportion.

Then a quick photoshop to make sure I'm happy before final welding.

I've got a pile of parts to throw at this bike, so I'm going to get back in the swing of things while getting the kz440 OMS 2014 ready.

Winter is creeping up slowly. It's time to adopt a derelict bike and breathe some new life into it. For more details on the ride go to www.ozarkmountainscramble.com

71 xlch : 01

After the new baby joined the family 7 weeks ago, I decided I need less projects, or at least to cut a couple loose that were just taking up too much space. The cl350 got a new motor and was sold off along with a boat load of 350 spares. The dreamhawk never came to fruition and was sold as a bundle for next to nothing. That leaves the kz440, tt500, and some cash burning a hole in my pocket. Say hello to the first and possibly only ever HD I will ever own.

It's a 71 xlch that runs, but needs some maintenance and tuning. I don't have a ton of stuff planned other than to make it roadworthy and add a little Dick Hirschberg styling.

Some Dunlop k70 tires, a proper drum front wheel, fork gaiters, lunchbox oil tank, ditch the brow, banana style seat, different pipes, and some shocks. Nothing fancy, just a motorcycle.

OMS cl360 : 03

I had some down time while waiting for parts, so I decided to make use of my time and clean up the CL a little bit. It's been crazy hot, so I rolled the bike into my den and went to town. It didn't take long to reduce things to a pile of parts.

After a bit of cleaning and spray bomb action, the CL was ready to start reassembling.

In the mean time, I picked up a set of old tunable cocktail shakers to replace the rotten stock mufflers. They were a bit crusty, but a few minutes of polishing made them almost presentable. I still may ended up painting them.

I'm hoping to button up the motor this weekend, so I can start hammering out the finer details soon.

OMS kz440 superbike : 08

Got some work done on the electrics. Battery brackets are done. Not pretty or remotely straight, but holds just fine.

The battery stays pretty well hidden under the tail, and has plenty of tire clearance with the kz1000 police shocks.

The starter solenoid and regulator/rectifier tuck nicely under the cb350 tank with plenty of air to stay cool. The zip tie is temporary until I get the new reg/rec in and can confirm bolt hole spacing to make the bracket.

I welded a cb350 ignition bracket to the coil bracket. Once again, it's not pretty, but no one will see this anyways. I am using a marine grade Pollak 33-105 ignition switch with the built in starter circuit. I've used them a few times now, and haven't had one fail me yet. Super easy to wire, and relatively small.

Everything hides real nice with the tank on.

An overall shot with the Unifilters.

I whipped up a new wiring diagram.

The plan is to have it fully wired by the weekend with the help of my new vintage wire connections kit and crimper tool from Cycle Terminal. The initial investment is a hit to the wallet, but should speed up the process considerably and function more like a stock wire harness.
